Itinerary
Start the day with an early morning flight to Goba, and upon arrival, venture into the breathtaking Bale Mountains National Park. Begin your exploration at Dinsho, where you'll take a leisurely stroll through the scenic juniper forest and explore the area known for its high concentration of rare wildlife, including the majestic Bale Mountains Nyalas, Minilik Bush Bucks, and other mammals. From here, embark on a 4-5 hour trek to the Geysay Valley, the northernmost extension of the park. As you wander through the indigenous forest, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of the elusive Minilik Bush Buck, Mountain Nyala, and other unique mammals, including the critically endangered Ethiopian Wolf. Embark on a memorable trek through the breathtaking Weib Valley, where the landscape unfolds with dramatic vistas and picturesque scenery. The journey culminates at the majestic FinchaAbera waterfall, a stunning natural wonder that is sure to leave you awestruck. As you approach the falls, the sound of rushing water grows louder, and the sight of crystal-clear waters cascading over moss-covered rocks will be a truly unforgettable experience.Overnight camping
Make your way through the valley, surrounded by the towering peaks of Merero, and discover the unique mineral springs that dot the landscape. Take in the unusual sights and flavors of these natural wonders before beginning the challenging climb out of the valley's depths and onto the sun-kissed Sanette Plateau, where the terrain opens up to reveal breathtaking vistas and a new world of possibilities. Conquer the rugged peak of Batu, reaching an altitude of 4203 meters, and then continue on through the scenic arms of the Batu horseshoe. As you make your way across the landscape, arrive at a serene campsite beside GarbaGuracha Lake, nestled in the heart of the Tegona Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs that stretch up to the sky, this picturesque lake provides a peaceful retreat beneath the vast expanse of the valley's natural amphitheater.Overnight camping
Make your way to the majestic summit of TulluDimtu, the highest point in the Bale Mountains, standing tall at 4377 meters (14357 feet). As you reach the Sanetti Plateau, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views that will leave you awestruck. The landscape is dotted with small alpine lakes and unique afro-alpine vegetation, featuring the Giant Lobelia and 'Everlasting' shrubs. Take in the stunning vistas that stretch out to the unusual pinnacles of Chorchora Peak and across the dramatic Tegona River Gorge. You'll also have a bird's-eye view of the steep-sided volcanic plug of KontehTullu and the rugged, craggy ridges of Mount Batu. Venture into the enchanting Harena Forest, one of the last remaining natural forests in the country. This unique ecosystem is teeming with a diverse array of mammals, amphibians, and birds, many of which are endemic to this region. Take a stroll along the bamboo-lined trail and waterfall path, immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of this lush forest. In the past, this habitat was home to packs of the critically endangered Painted Hunting Dog and Lycaonpictus, making this trek a chance to connect with nature and support conservation efforts.Overnight camping / local guest house in Rira.
Return to Goba in the morning and make a final stop at the Sanette Plateau, a prime spot to observe the rare and endemic Ethiopian Wolves in their natural habitat. After this unforgettable experience, head to Goba Airport for your scheduled flight back to Addis Ababa. If time permits, you'll have some leisure time to shop for souvenirs or explore the city. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional Ethiopian restaurant, where you'll be treated to a cultural feast featuring dances and music from various ethnic groups. Following dinner, you'll be transferred to your final destination, marking the end of your journey.
